In retrospect we can see that somewhere around early 70’s baby dolls were shoved to the back of shelves.
Dolls who could cry were pushed by advertisers. Dolls who could walk and talk and pee were front and center in Toys-R-Us stores. Toys-R-Us, an insididious name for a toy store if there ever was one.
And then came the Barbie. Why cuddle a baby doll when you can slide a shiny vest over the protruding boobs of a Barbie. And lest, you get bored with her, you can build a collection of Barbies.
It’s too easy to comment upon the mechanization, gross materialism, sexism, and sexualization this represents.
The most unfortunate consequence of this has been the loss of the opportunity, particularly for girls, to let love flow from their hearts. Girls used to love their ‘babies.’ They put them to bed. They put them in high chairs, they wrapped them in blankets. They carried them about. Lucky girls.
Contrary to what many think, we are not happy when we find someone to love us; we are happy when we love. When love flows from the whole of who we are to somebody or something, we want to sing. We are inspired. We are not whiny and constantly wanting.
No, baby dolls do not limit our options in life. They do not program us for menial work. They create a resonance with the best part of ourselves.
Call me a feminist. Call me a mother and now, happily a grandmother.

WORDS: From the heart. How beautiful you express your words. Intelligence, coupled with wisdom and love are some of the best gifts of living. Truly you have all three. Thank you!
